Spain

National flag of SpainSpanish aquaculture is extremely diverse, covering marine and freshwater species, fish and shellfish. Freshwater (continental) fish farming is represented in the FEAP by the Spanish Organisation of Freshwater Aquaculture Producers (Organizacion de Productores de Acuicultura Continental - OPAC). Marine fish farming is covered by the Asociacion Empresarial de  Productores de cultivos marinos (APROMAR) - the Spanish Association of Marine Fish Farmers.

APROMAR logoOPAC logoWhile freshwater fish farming is dominated by trout production, there is also some farming of the European eel and restocking species: Marine fish farming has concentrated on the production of gilthead seabream, although seabass has increased in recent years. Of note is the consistent growth of turbot aquaculture.
